I have one that John Copello used to make one that clamped on to the lower edge of the front bumper. His most recent posted address is: copellosvwporschestuff@hotmail.com

Re: Looking For an Front License Plate Holder (No Drilling)
Earl,
If you put YOM (Year of Manufacture) plates on your car you only have to run the one in the back. A friend in NY did this with this 64 C Coupe. He bought a World's Fair 64 NY plate, registered it with the DMV and only runs it on the back, since in 64 NY only had back plates. I'm sure this would work too for your 57. You have to research it with the DMV but you can run YOM plates on your vintage car, my brother has NY Statue of Liberty plates on his 87 Carrera.
I have current NY plates that are personalized on my 356, but I've never put the front one on.

Leave it off Earl. I drive several cars in NY that I don't run front plates on. It's not legal but I've been doing it for years with a 2010 BMW, a 2014 911, a 1963 356, and a 1970 911. The older cars were from PA with no front plates so I wasn't about to drill holes. On the new ones, I asked the dealers to let me mount plates and I left off the front ones. Never got a ticket.

I'm trying that with the newest Benz, there was no front mount, so I didn't mount the plate, so far, so good!Bruce Smith wrote:Leave it off Earl. Earl, Here is a no holes front license plate mount:

I tried to make it appear like the original factory front above bumper mount.

You didn't state whether or not you have the US-style "towel bar" (aka reinforced) bumpers.
While i suspect that you don't, if I'm wrong you could get the VW-style License Plate Clamps that go around the "towel bar." https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/Deta ... m?ID=ZVW16
