Porsche 356A Front Low or High Overrider Bar Determination

#1 Post by charlesbennett »

I have a leftover front overrider bar from my 1959 Cabriolet. How do you determine if it's low or high? Is there a certain length to determine? What is the going price for one that has new chrome and is in excellent condition? Thanks in advance for your help.

Charles when was the car built? If after February 59 then it is likely it was the high bar. If before then the low. I can try measuring mine and let you know if nobody comes up with a measurement. I would say for one in good shape around $400.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Thanks for the reply. It was purchased as a used part and not on the car. My 59 was produced in late 1958 and has the low overrider bar. It's impossible to compare the two without taking it apart.

If you have one to measure against then measure from the furthest point on the end of the two bars to the hole for the fastener to the bumper guard. In the case of the high guard it will be a significant increase in the dimension.

Riddle -- you will find the answer when you measure the distance between the studs in your bumper guards.

The overrider bar is apparently a low. I measured total length at 68" and bumper mounts at 30 1/2. The measurements are exactly the same as the low on my early 59 Cabriolet. Thanks for everyone's help. I really do appreciate this forum and the people in it!

Sincerely,
