Last Drive of the Year was only 100 feet

#1 Post by Sebastian Gaeta »

Last week we put the hardtop on my cab. I really like driving with it on in the cold weather, lots of headroom and it's just plain funky and gives the car a whole different look and feeling. As of a few days ago the weather report was dry and chilly for the foreseeable future and I did not bother to check it this morning when I left for the shop.

Here's what I saw when I walked outside at about 10am:

No biggie, I thought, they would not salt the roads over a just a dusting, right???

I was wrong. When I went to lunch (in a different car) it was apparent that the salt trucks had been out in force which pretty much ends the driving season for me and my fellow Motor Cities Gruppe members here in southeast Michigan.

Here's what things looked like at the end of the day:

I fired it up and drove it about 100 feet around the parking lot before putting it inside. Next week we'll change the oil, adjust the valves, pump up the tires and put it in the storage area. Oh well, April is only 3 1/2 months away....

My Hagerty policy seems to require me to store my car at my home. Hopefully your storage place is proper for the fine print in your policy.

Hi Martin,

It is. I don't use Hagerty anymore and I was one of their early customers. Very nice people, great organization but they have become a marketing company that just happens to also insure your car and they have some odd restrictions. I don't need a magazine, a website, parts concierge and goodie bags at car events, I just need a company to insure my cars and because of all of their "services" they are 30% more expensive than who I use now. I have agreed value coverage (with up to a 50% bump in coverage if the car is totalled and values have risen since your last renewal), plus no mileage limit on towing. They insure all of the cars at the Barrett-Jackson auctions and are well known so my cars are very well protected.

Anyway, I was just hoping to squeeze in another couple of weeks of driving before putting away my car. I hope everyone else in the snowbelt has better luck!

Nice. You need to post a picture of your car in the snow thread :)

Great idea. I will roll it out this weekend for a glam shot. But here's the other cabrio taking in a snow shower. Sorry about the hijack Sebastian. Just bored at work today.

This was from 15 years ago in Ohio. Now I am 200 miles South I hope not to see so much of that white stuff but if it does snow and they do not salt the roads I just may go for a drive.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Not a hijack at all Dr Z, you've got it back on track!

Great pic of the 993, is that at the new/old house?

It's what we get in place of all the California sunshine.

Thanks, I may call them. I'm with Hagerty but lately forced to keep my 356 at my office parking garage and I think it's not covered. Actually a safer place to keep it, probably, with 24/7 security guards and a zillion security cameras online all the time.

Having lived in L.A. all my life, I had to buy a (now former) mountain lake house to find out what the white stuff was all about. Fun sometimes on the weekends, but I can live without it otherwise!

More white dirt this morning 1 1/2 hours West of Sebastian on Augusta Creek. Unwilling to expose the Porsches so they are tucked away in the garage.
