Thanks Doug and Jim for the photos of the Pre A PORSCHE folder, the die to replicate the logo would be quite tricky to produce as it is a positive image stamped from the back of the card but I will ask my guys if they can make it work.

I have just received the new die for the crest with all the fine details, thanks to Joris for providing the hi-res pictures.
I have had to upgrade the die to Bronze from the cheaper magnesium to hold all the detail and I am now using just over 3 tonnes of pressure to get it to look right.
Also the card stock is now red not Burgundy to closer match the original..

So I'm ready to start producing a small quantity for those of you who have expressed an interest.
I will PM people in the order they have enquired but please be patient as each folder takes a couple of hours to cut, crease, stamp, fold and glue.

One small disclaimer: The card stock is just like the original (cheap pulp board with a leather look grain) BUT just like the original folders if it gets wet the colour can bleed, so your laminated drivers manual will be fine but I would not put your priceless original documents into the folder if your glovebox gets wet inside.

Hope you like them.
Regards
Drew

Drew what a great effort, very very good.

I have an April 1956 Coupe

I would ask for the CREST version, but it seems that the PORSCHE version may be more appropriate for my car.

If and when someone can tell which is the right one, I'll ask for a couple.

Many Thanks
David

Somewhere in the back of my foggy brain, I seem to recall that the crest was introduced on the folder with the T1 cars....and the paper folder was gone with the T2 cars. My '55 Speedster folder just has the PORSCHE not the crest....anyone out there with something definitive?

Drew...got mine today. FANTASTIC! Great job. So...when are you going to do the "non-crest" version? I'll take two when that happens.

Thank you Peter, glad you like it.

I have now sent out around 30 folders all over the world, but the last run of orders might not get to the recipients before the big day, so apologies if it was going to be a Christmas present for your 356.

Here are some pictures of the final folder.

I also received an interesting Pre A version from Simon Jensen with a straight pocket on the right side.

I will hopefully be making some or the Pre A versions early in the new year.

Thanks once again for everyones kind words and I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.

Hi Guys
I am one step closer to producing a limited run of Pre A folders with the PORSCHE logo.
Received the new dies today and did a couple of test pressings, here is the result.
This is a two piece die set with male and female parts that have to be lined up very accurately.
Small logo.jpg
Thanks to Simon Jensen for pushing me to get this far and Donald Zingg for accurately measuring his very rare original.
The Pre A folder is smaller than the 'A' version and only has three creases in the centre.

Very nice Drew!

Any idea when this pre-A folder started being used? 1955?

Hi Pete,

My early '56 T1 has its original owner's manual and cover with excellent provenance. It has the 'PORSCHE" embossing, not the crest. The Kardex doesn't include the completion date, however the Ruetter body log books which I viewed at the Porsche archives shows the completed body finished on 2/18/56. I'm not exactly sure when the change to the crest occurred but it was after the T1 introduction.

Regards,

Thanks Chuck! I knew the change over to the "crest type" folder was sometime during the T1...didn't mean to imply that it occurred concurrently with the T1 intro.
I'm looking forward to seeing Drew's next effort! BTW Drew...sign me up for TWO please!

Hi Guys
I have had a bit of a set back, after only a few impressions the dies slipped out of register and have become damaged.
You can see the problem in this picture.
Broken die.jpg
I am going to have to order another set, a slightly expensive mistake.
So the first folders won't be ready for another couple of weeks, sorry.
Will post pictures of the final folder when it's ready.

Hi Guys

At last the new dies are working beautifully, and the first few pre A folders are ready.
Pre A & A folders_sml.jpg
The dimensions, pockets and creases are subtly different to the T2 'A' folder
Pre A folder_sml.jpg
Pre A inside_sml.jpg
Pre A close up_sml.jpg
As I have said before each folder is hand cut, creased, stamped and glued so please be patient as I can only make a few at a time.
I will be placing an advert on the registry and also putting some pictures on the Pre 'A' thread to let those guys know it's ready.
