Racoon

#1 Post by Bob Forman »

This thread is in relation to Steve Ross's well-deserved rant above but so far off the mark I had to put it in this part of the Forum. My wife and I had a garage sale last weekend and the hit of the event was my stuffed raccoon. I nailed this guy one night about 30 years ago with my bow and stuffed it. Figuring it was time for it to go I put a price tag of $35 on it. It got more interest than everything else combined. The common question was: "What's your best price on the raccoon?" Because of all the interest I replied: "$35." Some folks would drive up and not even get out of their car and ask: "What's your best price on the raccoon?" Same response. The raccoon is back up on the top of the book shelf. The moral of this story is that asking someone to bid against themselves is arrogant and insulting. Perhaps, like Steve, I should have put "firm" on the tag.

Cheapness knows no bounds. Some 40 years ago in Santa Maria, CA I went to a swap meet with my GF at the time. I witnessed a woman examining used bras for $0.50. She asked the seller if she would take a quarter. Honest.

Our Fox is priceless! My daughter Ava is obsessed with foxes and on one of my road trips I saw this in a junk store. Even at a shady store outside of Syracuse is was still $200.
