It is a gorgeous day today, I drove my 63 Cab? to breakfast. I got in it to go to work and the key wouldn't fit in the ignition. I got a ride back and brought three spare keys and some triflow, didn't help. I called Tom Funk at 356 Works and he had Paul call me back. Paul taught me how to hotwire it which got me home.
Any ideas of home fixes or should I just decide who to send it to since Tony already has had my 52 igniton and speedster doors and ignition about 5 years.
I have a new ignition but it has screws instead of bullet receptors.

Re: ignition problem
Mark, there are at least two other vendors doing keys and switches. Check the vendor list plus Dick Weiss in Cincy has the expertise to repair the switches but no sure if he works on the tumblers.

A local locksmith (who cuts keys when needed) can do tumbler work, too.

Re: ignition problem
I was contacted By Alicia of Tweets Restoration in Florida. She was able to remove my key with a lot of pulling. The ignition was so out of spec that they had to change its key pattern and cut a new key for that. Incredibly transparent process including pictures and a detailed work order. All done in about a week. I strongly recommend them.

Re: ignition problem
Hello Mark
My'62 ignition switch wasn't "switching", so I removed it and pulled it apart.
Part of the internal Bakelite mechanism was broken off.
The Contacts had seen much better days.
The Tumblers were all worn.
As it is 55 years old, and beyond repair, I'm going to buy a new Ignition Switch which comes with a new chrome Bezel, a Door Lock Set and four Porsche Keys. $315.94 from Stoddards.
The pictures tell the story.
Regards David

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. We are happy to see you back on the road. It was a pleasure collaborating with you on the repair/rebuild of your K300 series ignition switch.
Regards,
Alicia & Dan

Re: ignition problem
I highly recommend Ryan Hernandes. He's been doing my lock work for years. He is located in the NE. Tele 1-860-576-9789. Usually takes him a couple of weeks to make keys, fix locks, including ignitions.
