That was what I was thinking too, but I think it would have been spot welded to the body, instead of a number of bolt holes.

looks like the pivot point of the rear seat tops.. looks like the spot welds have been drilled out. located on the hump between the rear seat bottoms of a 356. Are you sure it is a 356 part?

No, I don't know that its 356, although it came in a box of Porsche parts. Mike is right. It is the center pivot point for the rear jump seats. Here are some pics comparing the front hood hinge pocket seen from behind the dash and the seat pivot as it would be once welded into the car.
