No extra points, but at least no deduction. I guess the luggage rack would work but that might open up another can of worms. Original rack? Are the straps original? Bolts original to mount rack? Kind of a slippery slope....Hugo Karasawa wrote:Would you get the points if you use an original luggage rack instead of plugging the holes ?

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Mervyn, yours are different, but may be original as well. I suspect that yours are threaded, since your "holes" are shaped for a hex key.Mervyn Hyde wrote:Then mine are different as they have holes in them?
As I said, there may have been more than one version, for various possible reasons- different coachbuilders, different suppliers, a change in specs, etc..

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
I am sure those would work. But the car that had them didn't have the holes. Just the flat top......and of course the slots....Mervyn Hyde wrote:Then mine are different as they have holes in them?

Never saw any with a hex in them. Mine are like Jon's as well, yellow with age.

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Which holes need to be plugged ?
From Mervin's photo
The one in the rectangle or the one in the oval ?

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
We use tooth paste to clean the white rack bumpers.
Might try Crest and a tooth brush to clean the yellow plugs.
If you are going to show the car with the rack include the decal and the hang tag that came in the original box. If the are clean that will impress the Concours Judge.

Hugo: the plug goes in the threaded hole.

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Mike is right, at least in my case. I pulled one out and there is a captive nut underneath and the plug goes in that hole, from above.

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Thanks, now I understand.
The plugs that I saw at Stoddard could plug the non threaded hole (10mm diam), and those are to big for the threaded hole. That threaded hole is threaded for an 8mm screw.
Hope Gave finds the correct plugs.

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Mervyn, it looked like there was a hex shape in your plug from the previous photos, but maybe not.
Your plug is similar to those used on new Porsche crankshafts...

Good eye, Jon!
Stoddard, Klasse 356 et al. sell the luggage rack plugs but they lack the serrated edge.

Re: Luggage rack hole plug
Could you please post photos of the correct plugs installed on an engine lid?
The only photo of that part that has been posted is Mervin's and now we are told those are not the correct ones.
