Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
I want to remove my Nardi wheel to fix a squeak occurring when I move it. Figure I need to remove the horn button to do this, but the isn't enough room between the plastic button and the center wheel rim to prize it out without scratching the metal.
I also want to align the Porsche crest on the horn button vertically, but when I depress it and try to rotate it left or right, it hits a stop on either side. Ideas please? Many thanks

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
Hi Sam
There should be one or two small holes in the wheel base from the back that you can carefully place a thin rod or dowel so you can push the horn button out.
Be very careful and push just a little at a time.
It works on my VDM wheel, not sure about the Nardi.
Otherwise one of our members makes a tool for horn button removal.

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
John, I can't find any holes. There is a three-ribbed metal trim ring which surrounds the plastic horn button; possibly it unscrews? I've heard that there are copies of authentic Nardis; maybe I have one of those.
I'd like to contact the member who makes a removal tool, and would really appreciate being able to talk to someone familiar with Nardi wheels.
Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam
I had one of those and the ring would pop off, held in place by rubber grommets that went over the screw heads. Try a thin blade under the ring.

Popping off the ring did the trick...thanks, Bart and John. Cleaning out 60+ year-old grunge fixed the squeaking, and aligning the horn button when reinstalling was easy.

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
Resurrecting an old thread because I can't figure out how to get the Nardi wheel off my 1965 356C. (Not sure if it was original or added, but it's been on there since I got the car 20 years ago.) I have to get to the horn contacts to replace them. Just pulling on the horn button doesn't seem to work, but I don't want to pull too hard and break something.
Could someone please suggest how to proceed? (Is it the ring on this one? I've seen so many different styles of Nardi wheels, I don't want to assume it's the same!)
I'll attach photos.
Thank you!
Elizabeth

Here is a pic of the hub without the wheel.
The ring pops off.

Thank you! Any special magic to pop the ring off?

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
No magic, use a thin blade, its held on by the rubber parts that go around the bolts so not very secure.
Good luck, John

Mine's got a Nardi and the plastic bit with the horn button in the centre just pulls out with your fingers. It's tight but not terrifyingly so.

Here some pictures.
As Ashley said just pull the horn button with your fingers, that part is the one that holds the ring.

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
I had this same problem. Thanks to this thread, I figured out how to get the horn button out and I took it apart to check and clean it. Got the button reassembled with the backing plate retainer spring in place, but now I can't get it back into the steering wheel hub. The lobes on the retaining spring seem to be in the way. Don't want to force it. Is there a secret? (I can't figure out how to attach photos here, but it is similar to the photos above with the red lines pointing to the retainer spring in question.

Re: Nardi Steering Wheel Removal
You have to tilt it, one spring lobe at a time. If you are trying to push the horn button parallel to the wheel it will not go in.
