Wiper blade attachment to gearbox shaft

My '60 Roadster #87288 has the wiper gearboxes with the 6mm shaft. The wiper arm recommended by
Stoddard has a small bolt that squeezes on the shaft and a steel insert for the back side. It has a flat surface. Will the clamping bolt provide enough grip or should I file a flat on the shaft for better grip arm to shaft?
What's best practice? (besides don't drive in rain?)

I have finally got the electrics completed! I remembered someone said to check rotation of shafts before attaching arms. I did and rotation is backwards! Any ideas for correcting this, please?

Can you reposition the levers 180 degrees off from their current positions, on the bottoms of the wiper shafts? Or do you have actual gear boxes? If it’s that style I have no experience but maybe switching left and right?

What do you mean "backwards"? The both cycle clockwise and anti-clockwise, right?

I assume he means they park in the wrong direction.

If I install the blades facing the left side of the car the shafts turn clockwise and they will turn the arms into the cowl and tear thing up. I can install the arms facing the right side but that isn't correct.
Reminds me of Charlie Davis who had many cool ideas and parts for our '70's 911es. He showed me how to move wiper blades to the right side so we could see the road better when it wasn't raining. My '73 is still that way.

A lot of people learned that the $$$ way; that's the reason to try it w/o blades first. Oh, and making little masking tape flags will make the motion easier to see.
This is memory from some time back, but if the lever on the motor parks 180* off, I think it will produce the result you're seeing. Probably have to take the assembly out to change it, but this time you can prove the action on the bench.

To answer your original question, yes the screw will provide enough clamping force. But the screw chews into the shaft. This means that after the first set up with virgin parts, you cannot make small angle adjustments, the set screw will just go back to the existing dent. Further, with use the screw may get a little loose and chew up the shaft. It was a poor design and frustrating to deal with. The C cars have a much better design. My solution is not to drive the cars in the rain!

Today I fixed the wipers parking on the wrong side. Removed the ground strap and the radio, then the 4 bolts that hold the assembly under the dash. I was able to lower rhe motor enough to loosen the bolt clamping the arm to the motor shaft and turn it 180 degrees. With the power off the motor was easy to turn so the clamping nut and bolt could be tightened. Bolted assembly back in place and when battery reconnected the motor turned to it's stop position.
