Is T-2 red vinyl the same color as T-5?
I have an old book entitled, "Colour Code and Material Sample." The book covers 356B, 356C, and early 911s and 912s. Is the sample for 356B, 356C and pre-A series 911s and 912s shown on the page below correct for T-2 cars as well? The other two photos show the front pages of the sample book.
How do I get the photos to post in the proper orientation?

If a member opens your post in this thread and then left clicks on a photo it should then open that photo in the proper orientation and slightly magnified.
At least that works for me when using Firefox.

Google Chrome automatically rotates them 90 degrees to the right when I look at them.Thomas Frisardi wrote:I have an old book entitled, "Colour Code and Material Sample." Thomas
I saw a copy of this volume for sale in the mid west a year or so ago. Is this that copy? There can not be many copies that survive today, please take good care of it.

Here below are those pages right side up. That book was done about T-6 times. For earlier cars they did a sales-type book --- See Charlie White's book for photos of those.

Re: What is red?
Brad, Do you know whether the deeper red in the book is correct for T-2 cars?

As for T-2 cars, there was only one factory book with materials samples which was really for dealer salesmen. Here is a photo of a page from that book.

I believe T2 and 5 are the same. The T1 are a whole different ball game

I don't have a T-5 book. However, I do have a T-6 book ... the red color appears to be the same as the A (photo above) but with slightly more texture in the T-6 sample.

Re: Is T-2 red vinyl the same color as T-5?
Brad, is it your understanding that the book shown in my post is for T-6 cars and early 911s only? My book is not dated, as far as I can tell. It covers 911 and 912 models through the B series. There is no distinction made between T-5 and T-6 cars.
I had Color Plus mix a dye to match the red vinyl sample shown for 356B and C in the book, and used the dye on some sections of original vinyl in my 1959 T-2. It appeared to match very well, actually perfectly to my eye, but Joanne at Color Plus told me that she could "only" get it to 99.31% accuracy.
Based on my single anecdote, I would say that the original T-2 red vinyl is the same color as shown for T-6, and maybe T-5, in the sample book. The earliest 911s and 912s probably used the same red, but Porsche switched to a lighter red with the A series.
Anyone familiar with the UK phrase "putting on the anorak?" I freely admit to putting on the anorak, here.

It is my understanding that T-6 B black vinyl is different than C black vinyl. Is that true?
What is the taxonomy of black vinyl through the years?

Edwin, here is the page of black vinyl samples in my book. As you can see, there is a 356C specific black vinyl. The sample shown for B and C models is perforated, but it also appears to have a different grain.
