Courtesy light switch 'knob'

#1 Post by Mervyn Hyde »

My BT6 has the correct functioning interior/courtesy lights. However, the small knobs that control the three positions for the switch are missing. Can these be found separately?

There used to be a guy selling them. It was a two-piece knob you glued onto the lever. Check on the Samba. I'll see if I can find the source as well. Someone has to be making them as new interior lights with the knobs are available. Maybe Stoddard or others can sell just the knob?

Perhaps Gary Constantine of Brezelwerks. He reproduces other knobs.

Thanks Jim and Mike for taking the time. Stoddarts and SM don't seem to have them separately as they sell the entire light unit. I will follow up on Samba. I assume the VW ones were different?

I bet that lots of 356 drivers have these little knobs missing however.

I've also removed the knob from beat up lights using a Dremel to cut it loose on the bottom. Then I epoxied the knob onto the lever.

Many years ago I encouraged Gary Constantine (Brezelwerks) to make these knobs from an original I had borrowed from Mike Wilson. Gary made the little knobs and sold them on TheSamba. I don't know if he still makes them. You should send him an email to see if he has any left.

I found my original post re the light switch knobs. Search: "Repro Light Knobs from Brezelwerks" and you can read the story about the knobs.

Good on you Peter. I have written to Gary at the address in your earlier post. EDIT: seems that Samba email address does not work any more.

Or if anyone has some switch knobs lying around on defunct lights??

Cheers

Many thanks Mike - a couple, off any lights that were beyond repair would be great

Merv: send me a PM with your address. I have two although one is a bit newer than the other which has some "patina".

Thanks Mike. Worked well. The slightly 'beige' button cleaned up well with some emory paper.

I am trying to just keep this old car as original as possible.
