Convertible top for '59 Conv D

#1 Post by Rick Gurolnick »

Hi All -

Looking for good experiences buying and installing a fresh convertible top for my '59 Convertible D. This project is really driven by the yellowed, hardened rear window that gave up and broke up last time I lowered the top.

I live NW of Chicago area and appreciate good resources for a quick, accurate delivery of a fresh top, and experiences with installation.

Thank you in advance,

Rick Gurolnick

I replaced the plastic window in a roadster in the late 80s. A good upholstery shop should be able to replace the window and save the cloth top. We did mine without taking it off the frame. The cut the new window and sewed a bias take of cotton around the plastic, then sewed it back into the top. Worked Ok and was still good when I sold the car 20 years later.
They also offered to put in a zipper so it could be opened, I wished later I had done that when we did the window.
