Wiring Harness Routing Diagram
I purchased a 1964 SC in November that was completed disassembled when I got it. Best jigsaw puzzle ever.
My issue is the wiring harness was cut to pieces. It has a new harness that is fully labeled, with a chart and wiring diagram. However these do not show where the wires run in the car. I can see where parts of it are routed since they only cutoff some parts, but not most of them. An example, I can see how it goes through the tunnel since part of it is still there, but once is comes out into the engine compartment I have not idea where to go next. Does anyone have a diagram or photos of where the wires run?
Thanks for the help.

Jim, thanks for the help. Everything helps. I have to believe that somewhere there is a diagram for routing the wiring harness. The hunt continues.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41625&hilit=Wiring I rewired my C with a new Y&Z harness. If you do a search for wiring with my name as author you will find more info. I have never seen a diagram. Feel free to contact me about details when stumped. I know some but not all the answers on C wiring.

Jim and Doug. Thanks a lot. When I get stuck I will be back asking questions. This has been a good head start. I think I also have a line on another 1964 I can look at for guidance.

Re: Wiring Harness Routing Diagram
In my opinion, there are five harnesses in a 356C.
1,- In the trunk for front lights and horns.
2.= Below the dash for instruments and switches.
3.- Inside the steering column for the turn signal/flash switch, horn and flasher
4.= For the door switches/ dome light.
5.- Engine compartment and rear lights.
In the rear, one part goes up through the right corner of the engine tin for the engine ignition, regulator etc. the other part goes below the engine tin for the rear lights.
Also in the tunnel there is the large wire that goes from the battery to the starter.
If the new harness is according to the color code of the 356C you should read the great articles that Greg Bryan wrote. These articles start in the registry magazine from may june 2014 and end in the january february 2017 issue. He shows all the connectors and the splices. Much better than in the workshop manual which is printed in black and white.
I will post pictures as soon as I find those.

Re: Wiring Harness Routing Diagram
Scott Not sure if you have done your tunnel pull yet. But remember you determine how much to pull through by the wiring to the brake light switch being in the correct place to go through the front firewall to your master cylinder. When the wiring leaves the center tunnel at the rear it immediately goes up and to the right where it is held by the bendable flat metal prongs seen in this photo. This exposed portion of the wiring loom is covered by a sheath to protect it from debris. I used an inner tube but large shrink wrap would be my 1st choice in the future. This cover extends back to where the engine compartment wiring branches off. See here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30266&hilit=wiring+pull What ever covering you use you will need to make a hole for the reverse light wire to go to the transmission reverse switch.

Re: Wiring Harness Routing Diagram
After the engine compartment wiring goes up into the engine compartment the wiring for rear lights, license plate lights and reverse lights continues to the rear and goes from inside the metal to outside the metal through the hole you can see if you enlarge this photo. Use a grommet in the hole to protect the wiring.

Re: Wiring Harness Routing Diagram
After the wiring is outside the engine compartment metal it turns the corner and goes over to the drivers side tail light. There should be more metal tabs to hold the wiring on the outside of the rear engine compartment metal (up between that and rear bodywork). Take lots of pictures as you go and do a write up for the articles section. Wish I had thought of doing that:>)
