A friend bought a "race prepared " 356 B for vintage racing.
The previous owner converted to disc brakes. The conversion was very poorly done, you would not believe how this conversion was done. In my opinion it is very dangerous to use the car as is. All the original drum brake parts are not available anymore. That is why I am asking this question. The intention is to have good brakes capable for vintage racing at the best cost for doing the conversion and for the maintenance afterwards.

Re: Drum to Disk conversion?
I am getting close to make the conversion. I sent the calipers to PMB for "rebuild/restoration" and am very pleased with the results! It is almost a shame to actually put them on the car but I WILL! I also sent parking brake shoes to Stoddard for reclining ($117 plus core). Also have Kasse dual master cylinder to install. Ted Robinson, German Precision, modified parts for improved handling. I just need some time to actually work on my car! I also have a set of 6" x 16" Fuch wheels ready to go.

Vic I would guess this is a street outlaw not a race car.

Re: Drum to Disk conversion?
I installed the Airkewld kit to my T5 coupe. Front only, with the big willwood 4 pot calipers. Had to buy a new dual circuit 19mm master cylinder, along with a couple of new brake lines. Installation was straight forward, and reversible.
I still have the drums on the back, which were overhauled at the same time. It not only stops better than any other early porsche i have driven, disc or drum, including 911's, but i got to keep my classic look drum brake wheels.
I agree with some of the other posts, that the c disc brake cars, stop no better than a gt drum equipped car. The willwood calipers with cross drilled rotors are another thing altogether, and best of all, not visible on the car, unless you get under it.

Correct. This is a street car. NOT a race car. I just want to drive as safe car as possible on the highway! "Drive" being the active word.
