Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
Hello Jim,
No, it has US heaters. We tried to find info on the original owner and where the car came from without too much success. The second owner owned the car from the mid 80's until 2005. We heard via the reseller (2005) that it was a two owner car. No name was given of the original owner and sadly the second owner passed away before I could speak with him. Car seemed to have been in Santa Barbara for awhile and later Barstow according to the receipts I have back to 1985. My trail ran cold pretty quickly on the original owner. We did were told by the resller that the original owner was in CA., was in the military and was possibly a Euro delivery. The car was titled as a 65'. So we're not sure how #4 car becomes a 65'- was Champagne Yellow/Green/Cord that hard to sell.. Is it possible he purchased and used it while stationed in Germany (or elsewhere) and had it set up as a US spec car? Reflectors are above the tail lights as well. The mysteries of the 356....

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
The C/SC oil filler/breather can has the 20mm nipple for the 20 x 20mm braided or ribbed hose to the air filters.
The 912 can has the 25mm nipple for the 25 x 20mm ribbed hose + the extra nipple for the small 12mm braided
breather hose to the right cylinder head.
A braided rubber hose couldn't be made w/o being molded for the 25 & 20mm ends, so the ribbed hose became available.

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
My A car has a 912 motor. I'm looking to buy the rubber hose that goes from the oil filler canister to the "snorkel" on top the Solex air filter.
Stoddard's is back ordered and don't know if and when they will have it again.
Anyone have one for sale or know somebody who does?
I think Jim B. just had the one for the C cars, right?
Here's a photo of the rubber hose I need. This is not my car, just a photo I found on the internet.

I may have a good used one for a 912. I was going to make that hose, too, but found out it was being made by John Benton of Benton Performance in SoCal. John and I are buddies and see no reason or benifit to make competing parts.
Ciao

Thanks Dave.
I didn't think of eBay.
But Jim B. hooked me up with John Benton who is going to get me one. Both nice guys by the way.

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
Isn't there a screened fitting on the 912 oil breather/filler canisters and how does this relate to the diameter of the hose?

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
Is there a hose that will fit the larger diameter of the later oil filler can vent outlet with two vents (maybe 912 only)? I have two engines with Solex air cleaners and only one engine that has the same diameter need on both connections. The one Jim B sells is the same diameter both ends. Is the one sold by Benton Performance correct? Perhaps I need to modify one of my oil filler cans back to early "C" version unless someone wants to make a trade?
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Call him direct at 714-630-5025.David Jones wrote:Is there a hose that will fit the larger diameter of the later oil filler can vent outlet with two vents (maybe 912 only)? I have a 1964 C that was delivered in 11/63" and the original hose is still on the car and is Braided Cloth over rubber hose. My chassis is 215242

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
My 1964 356C cabriolet purchased new from North Country Motors in Roslyn, Long Island in October 1964 had a black braided breather hose. Never saw a ribbed one til later.
Is this a spanner in the works, or confirming the never say never theory about what the factory might have resorted to on a given day?
I am dead certain regarding the hose. That was my first Porsche.
I owned it for nine years and knew every detail of that lovely Irish Green car.

Sounds like we need to find some of that black braided hose ... the correct type/diameter clamps.

My May or June of 64 SC has the braided rubber hose too. Still going after 56 years.
I'll measure it when I go to my man cave - probably tomorrow ...

Hose is 30mm OD
Motor was untouched before I started.

Re: Oil Breather Hose - 356C
This appears to be an original hose on my 6/64 SC. It is 220 mm long, ID of 20mm and OD of around 28mm. I almost appears to be a molded hose but it may be from sitting in that position for 50+ years.
I don't think the 912 ever had a rubber hose with the Knecht gravel guard filters as the fittings on the 912 are different sizes on each end.Greg Bryan
