Split Window?

#1 Post by Mark Todorovich »

Our 52 (11438) has always been a bent window. When my wife bought it, about 1972 it had been abused and gotten together to be a driver. ie: no headliner , carpet, 3/8's steel plate as a floor. No bumper on the front and rear quarter grafted on from a non body bumper car.

In watching the Jay Leno's Garage segment on Lemans winning Gmund Coupe, Rod Emory said Porsche didn't come out with bent Window until 53 year. POA said that a certificate of Authority wasn't available. Someone in EU who had access to cardex files told me it was delivered 5/28/52 to Glockler in Frankfurt. Only other info on cardex was that engine was 21015 (gone) and color Maron.

years ago Joe Ruiz told me that Split window and bent were interchangeable. At the time I was pleased after looking for a long time to have found a bent window that fit. If it should have been a split , I would love to find the glass and rubber to do it as a split.
Help in knowing which is correct is a start. Finding correct parts would be awesome. As I get closer to it being useable the details are becoming more and more important.
This is how it looking lately.

Mark

Your '52 was probably a bent window car. if the car still has the orginal dash and it was a split it will have notch in the center for the center seal of the two windshields.

Mark, your car is definitely a bent-window. The last split-window coupe was ~11360. All the 114xx cars are bent-window coupes, and there are many still around to confirm this.

Rod Emory just misspoke. The start of bent-windows was in April 1952. =)

Here's a photo of the notch in the dash on split-window cars that Tony mentions.
