Hi Mike,

Thanks for Your PM. I include it below. Here are pictures You asked for showing chassis and engine numbers for 84944. Car is in Stockholm and is confirmed by Porsche factory down to having correct lock numbers for doors and ignition lock.

Do You claim to possess this car? Please show what You have got.

Looking forward to Your reply.

Lasse

Every time this happens I think of Kirk Douglas standing up tp the Romans and proclaiming
"I am Spartacus!" only to have Antoninous stand up and say, " I am Spartacus" and on and on.

Normally in this situation, the tie goes to the runner, i.e. the guy with the car.

There can only be one Spartacus...

Hi Rich,
My name is on the 356 carrera speedster website because I am the administrator.
Owners can register a car on the website and can change the information regarding their cars. Contact information for the owners is not given out, but they can be contacted through me if they agree.
I have been in contact with Mike and Lasse over the past months and look forward to learn more about this intriguing situation.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for Your E-mail. I do not really understand what it is You are saying. (E-mail included below)

I want to make one thing clear: I have the genuine 84944 here in Stockholm. I am sure You are in good faith but You do not possess 84944. I have here the complete vehicle with matching numbers and history. What You have is something else.

Let the 356 community know what You got in parts/documents. Take pictures showing what You have and scan documents, for example. I am sure members on this forum would be delighted to help You trace the history and provenance of Your vehicle. Do not underestimate the power of this forum. Get help from the 356 Registry Forum to find out what You have, I am sure it would make an interesting thread.

Regards,

Lasse

Lasse,

thank you for your Answer and the Pictures. I have some more Informations, for example, that the Car gets, after some other Repairs etc., an 80 ltr. Fuel Cell with filler from outside. This was done with the regulations and Parts from Factory inclusive the position of the Id-Tag..!! inclusive some other things i know as well.
For example : i have not only the original stamped door handles....

I think it would be better that i visit you to show you my proof. When did you get the certificate from Porsche Factory ?

To see and discuss would be the best way to be clear each other.

Best and 356 Regards, Mike

Jules Dielen asked a question concerning ´59 Speedsters. It ended up in "Classifieds", I answer it here.

Yes, there where about 30 Speedsters built as model 1959. See Id and year tag for 84944 earlier in this thread. Convertible D chassis numbers start from 85xxx. Probably all ´59 Speedsters where lightweights with aluminum doors, hoods and seats, no undercoating and lightweight interiors. Big front brakes and steel/aluminum wheels. A couple had pushrod engines, most 4-cams. Some had 692/1 and some 692/3. 84944 has 692/3. Location for engine number is normal, engine beeing a 4-cam.

Regards,

Lasse

Production

#13 Post by Mike Müller »

Lasse,
in 1959 Porsche built a Speedster that would beat almost any other racing car in American Racing.. The idea was lightwight. So in 1958 were aditional ordered 31 GT Speedster bodies with the aluminium doors etc. 24 Cars had the 692/3 4-cam Carerra engine (only) and called Speedster Carrera GT ! Engine Production starts with the 95001 and end with in 1959 with 95052. The other 7 Speedster GT received normal pushrod engines. Chassis start with: 84923......till 84954. Regards, Mike

Some more info on the Speedster GT:

Reason for production were complains from customers about increased weight from Speedster to ConvD (760kg to 855kg). Thus, the Werk made 31 lightweight GT, 10x with 692/1 1500, 14x with 692/3 1600 and 7x with the pushrod S75.

Thanks Martin, again I was a little bit confused about Mike Müllers post. As I remember it there where some 1500 4-cams.
