Helge,

Are you sure yours had the front script? The front script was only used very shortly on the most early T5s. I had a T5 Roadster built in 12/59 and the script had already been dropped by then. Unless your nose has been replaced or badly damaged, you should be able to see/feel inside the nose. There will be a thin meta strip on the inside which held the script, or at the least you'll see/feel evidence of the holes having been filled.

Chuck,
thanks for your reaction.
The production date of our T5 is 4/12/1959 - so the question is, has it been installed yes or no?

Helge,

Your car is in the transition zone. I'm pretty sure that early Nov '59 cars had the script and late Dec '59 cars didn't. Since cars weren't completed in strict sequential order it's difficult to nail it down. The best way to determine if yours did or not is by inspection of the inner nose as I mentioned above. If your nose has been replaced so inspection won't work, then I'd just leave it off, unless you really want it. Note the B front script is not the same as the A front script - it is a bit larger.

Here are a couple photos showing approximate placement. I don't have exact placement measurements. Someone will have to chime in with an early B with measurements. Note that I've seen '60 B's with scripts installed which should not have them. I think part of the problem is that the PCA Spotter's Guide says that '60 B's had the front script which is wrong. However some judges read it too literally and deducted points so owners put them on.

Chuck, thanks for the info. I guess I will try to contact former owners of my car. It is nt written in the Kardex anyway. Our car is from 4.12.1959 a Dame, so it can be right (or not). I guess it is in this case more a choice of taste, isn't it?

Not sure if it is a true way to tell but I think if your transmission is single mount then you would have the front Porsche script.

They do seem to appear together on original cars I have examined.

Doug & Vic yes I Have a single mount transmission and I am sure that I had the front script with the car when i bought it. Was just not sure it should be or not be installed. I keep it in my mind that it is original and should have been installed .. thanks for the info ....

They both are early T5 "features" but they don't necessarily correlate. The script was dropped before the trans mount switch. Roadster 87322 had the single mount trans but no front script.

FWIW
Our early Roadster 87234 came with the front script and of course the single mount trans.
Not sure of build date but the engine, dist., gen. , trans ,gauges , wheels, etc.. are all stamped

I have 1960 roadster #87641 built 3-11-60. It still had the single mount 741 transmission but no front script.
