Aluminum GT / Outlaw Seats
FedEx just delivered my aluminum GT/Outlaw seats fabricated by alchemist Dave Miller, proprietor of Copacetic Metal Shaping! I can't thank Dave enough knowing this is only the second set ever made. BTW the other set is in his Type 64. THANKS DAVE!

Frank,
Those seats are awesome, will be so very cool in your car. That Dave Miller does incredible work. Just read a article in the latest Pano on Ralph Brawley, that is who Dave did his apprenticeship under many years ago. Keep us up to date on your build.

Beautiful seats! I have lots of questions: What car are they going in? Are you doing the upholstery yourself or sending them out for work? Did you need to get custom seat frames?
Asking as GT seats are in my future!

Sean – I’ll be installing the seats in my 60 B Coupe. Not sure if I’ll be running these in the raw as I did in my old 64 Coupe (see my avatar) or possibly having Autos International upholster them. I will be building my own seat tracks and use Speedster seat hinges supplied by one of the vendors. I’ll post fotos as work progresses.

Re: Aluminum GT / Outlaw Seats
So a lot has happened since I originally posted about the GT / Outlaw seats... I sold the 60, picked up a 53 and I finally installed the seats! I absolutely LOVE these! Looking to have these upholstered soon but thinking of leaving the backsides raw aluminum. Please let me know your thoughts.

Almost a shame to cover them at all. That said, if you lived in AZ, they would be like a clothes iron in the Summer!!

Frank:
Dave does great work, no doubt.
Would you consider installing a seat and back pad, leaving the bolsters bare? I've seen this done in a Cobra. Very aviation-style.
Good luck with them,

Kinda with Ronald - having seen your '53 in the flesh, keeping the rivets exposed would be super cool. It'd be easier to go full upholstered if you end up not liking it, rather than the reverse.

I would love a set of these!
Some options I've thought of 1. Leave em bare. 2. Minimum leather pads on bottom and back exposing a lot of the aluminum is cool or 3. leather on front with exposed backs. Would look really cool if they had the original style holes exposing some red leather through the backs.

If you plan on doing any serious driving and trips over a half an hour, you definitely should consider having your seats padded and covered. As a long time Speedster owner who puts about 1,500 miles per year on the car and takes occasional trips of 2+ hours, you do not want to sacrifice comfort for appearance. There is a reason that many Speedster owners who drove long distances, such as Mike Robbins, preferred to have Coupe seats in there Speedsters. Trust me, Speedster seats look fabulous but are far from comfortable on long trips.

Completely true. GT seats are a big improvement, at least to these bones.Eric Wahlberg wrote:If you plan on doing any serious driving and trips over a half an hour, you definitely should consider having your seats padded and covered. Anyone know of a source for adjustable seat frames(fore/aft) that also tilt forward? Specifically for a B/C. Wanting to install GT seats into a C model but cannot find the mounting frame and really don't want to fab one up.

Re: Aluminum GT / Outlaw Seats
Carl the T6 seat rails are different from standard Speedster mountings so the only option I'm aware of is fabbing up a set of your own or ordering from a vendor like Russ Rodriguez at Fibersteel, who is making a set for me.
I know you don't want to fab them up but Greg Scallon has a nice write up on the general procedure. His write-up is for a Speedster so the dimensions would need to be altered to fit the T6 seat rails. Stoddard sells the upper and lower rails now, but you'll also need the adjuster brackets, arms, and catch. They're getting scarcer but scour Ebay and The Samba for a bit and you come across a rough seat base to harvest bits from.
Hope that helps.
