hi david nice car. i like how straight the body is. aged yes but not bruised. case, crank and trans. those are going to be your big hurdles. you have to be willing to invest the money. your focus on the other mechanicals makes sense. be patient

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Well I have made some discoveries, rust as yo would expect. I am looking for a metal shop in california, preferably northern but will travel. I am concerned about the rust and plan to have the entire care blasted and then drag the thing to a shop for a complete redue.

Hello Hermage,
You should list yours on the registry. Steve Restelli has the ability to add it. Tell me more about it...any pics?

200 841 is on the list already, but I know nothing about the car...... colors, build date, trans#, condition or location? If you provide me with details about the car Hermage, I can add this information to the survivor list.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Well, making progress...Completely disassembled and on the car carrier. Spent most of my time designing and fabricating the attachments and carrier. Have found it an interesting process. I made the mistake of starting this project without any restoration resources, no maintenance manuals. Ordered the whole bunch from Harry's site but it is taking a while to get here. I have been using the registry and it has been very helpful.
Next, on the trailer on Thanksgiving, then to Ted Blake in Sacramento to have the floorboards looked at and arrange to have the floorboards R&Rd. Have a nice Thanksgiving everyone. For the project pictures go to.....

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Looks like your off to a great start. Thanks for the update.
My notchback was originally "royal blue". After I sold my car in 1973 it was never registered and raced for a year. It was pretty banged up, but never had any rust. The the car was bought and restored in 1974 by the fellow who kept it until 2013 and if you ever require reference photographs of something, just let me know. I also have original parts and maintenance manuals.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Have the floorboards out, preserved the flange with the help of Ted Blake's. Now off to the stripper. Then paint. While this is going on I am having small parts renewed. I will start bringing pictures of these items as I finish them. otherwise all the project pics are at: https://www.flickr.com/gp/29227096@N02/6Ar91U

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Car is at stripper. They have started on the underside, no rust except the door rear vertical seal rail. Damage was front end. Pretty rough but nothing serious. Love seeing all that straight metal. May need a nose for this....

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Incidentally, Vic Skirmants was 100% correct in identifying the metal fragments on the magnetic drain plug from the tranny.
He was also correct in saying, "not good". Now I need to find ring and pinon as well as a new differential housing. Cracked. Everything else looks good, no wear but all bearings, synchro will be freshened. Luck to have found Ron's Transaxles in San Rafael. He has all the tools and plenty of experience.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Great progress David. Being in California is a huge advantage for resources. There are more Porsche's there than any other place in the USA I can think of.
How is the motor? Have you done anything with it yet?
