Silver script
Hi, I have a new unmounted 5 post silver Porsche script. Could someone please advise what car this is supposed to fit? Thanks.

Re: Silver script
Is it aluminum, and are the posts hollow?

Re: Silver script
Hi Bill. If it is aluminum, I believe the mounting posts should be long and solid if it only has 5 of them. This would have been original on 1954-55 coupes and cabs. If it is chrome, then it is a reproduction.
The hollow post scripts had 7 short mounting posts (really rivets), one for each letter. These were used 1950-53.

Interesting Don! Never noticed that page before. It lists insignia available in chrome. Certainly Porsche made some chromed insignia replacement parts later on. Still do. Didn't realize they had started doing it so far back.
FWIW, earlier in the section they list the original parts on page 253-254:
356.58.036 Porsche insignia with hollow rivets, coupes 5001-51585, cabs 5015-60368
356.58.311 Porsche insignia with full rivets, coupes 51586 on, cabs 60369 on
Then on page 258a they give the same part number but a different description:
356.58.311 Insignia "PORSCHE" chromed with full rivets
We know for sure that the original 7-post hollow-rivet scripts were aluminum. Were some or all of the 5-post scripts chrome?

Re: Silver script
Detailed descriptions of the hollow rivet and newer solid pin badges can be found in the '56, 356A Workshop Manual, page B29. The title page implies this manual is applicable for 1300 & 1600 356A models, but one can reasonably assume that the components and processes were the same for earlier cars.Donald Zingg wrote:Everyone open your Jan 1955 Catalog of Spare Parts to page 258a - -
