1953 356 Fashion Grey Info

#1 Post by Ryan emmel »

New to the forum name is Ryan and I'm going to be painting a 1953 356 fashion grey with blue interior/dash. Has anyone ever came across anyone that has done one in the past or currently in the process. My understanding is there are very few in the united states and this is a possible 1 of 2 that is a cabriolet in the US. I'm trying to figure out if the formula 513 from Glasurit Is as Close To OEM as they come for concours Purposes. Any information is greatly appreciated . My email is EmmelsEnamels@yahoo.com or you can contact me by phone 720 315 3808. Thank You All For your time.

You're not the only one looking for Fashion Grey (Modegrau) R531, though perhaps this is the same car we're talking about?

Your car sounds like it was outfitted similarly to this original-paint 1953 1500 Super coupe owned by Seinfeld. John Paterek's America Roadster also has original Fashion grey paint.

Road Scholars had Glasurit match paint to the top bow of cabriolet 15040, a very original car, so chatting with them might be useful. I'm not sure if that match is the one that is currently in the Glasurit database for R531. You can get the that mix recipe from Glasurit's online tool.

And there are at least 7 Fashion grey '53 cabriolets still around. And at least 8 '53 coupes. It was a popular color that year! Some are with dark blue dashes and some with maroon dashes.

The blue is very dark on these. Steve Harrison has matched it. I believe it was code R502 Dark Blue, but that's just a hunch. You can see it in the photos of the Super coupe linked above.

Does anyone have a picture of an early car in Sand Grey? I have seen a sample of it on my monitor, but have never seen a picture of a car painted this color. Its the original color to my car. Thanks!

Well I found out the dash color Is Azurblau code 522 on this car I'm doing. And Glasurit has the rights to the formulas for Fashion Grey too. They were formulated from the reutter formulas. Lacquer is what is going to be used but getting it in a state where it's no longer legal to spray will be a chore.

Steve Harrison matched Pearl Grey for his 55 coupe recently.

Ryan, how did you confirm the Azure Blue dash color? Azure seems much lighter than blue dashes on other light-colored original-paint cars from '53.
