Thanks Larry!
I've owned it since '99. Original owner was a professor at Berkeley. I bought it from the second owner who had it since '64. Has a great soul. Lots of patina! Tall stack of stickers on the black plates!

Re: Pictures of 356's in original paint colors
Although the Certificate of Authenticity is a couple of weeks away, an extreme removal of parts on my newly acquired 1960 356B T5 Normal (I believe it was a normal) has revealed in the deepest of the innards a color that apparently corresponds with paint as it left the factory: Condor Yellow. According to one of the Registry books by Schrager, only 3% of the cars left the factory in 1960 with this color and none in 1962 with the other years unknown according to written statistics. Of course, some years it was not offered. I was going to paint the car 25th Anniversary 911 Silver Metallic. However, the discovery that the car's color is scarce makes me want to re-think the idea that I being the owner should paint it any color I want to, as this might be an imprudent decision, value-wise and narrow my sales market, should that ever come to pass. Anyone's thoughts on this? -- Alex

I saw two really cool cars. Red always looks the best on the track for some reason, but blue is second best and best in a parking lot or a concours, most of the time. shows off the gaps and is easy to look at. The color makes me believe the engine and running gear are reliable since clearly the car is owned by a more conservative pilot--AlexFreeman Thomas wrote:Thanks Larry!

Some of the Signal red here is original paint, overall a good example of signal red for the period.

Looked for a Roadster for quite a while. When this Royal Blue came up, it was all over. The paint is a a re-deaux from about 20 years ago. Matches perfectly with samples found on the pan etc.

Hi Ric
I did not understand. Did you just purchase this car? If so congratulations! But I am curious from whom? I was under the impression there were a very limited number of Koenigsblau roadsters.
Blue rules!

Re: Pictures of 356's in original paint colors
Hi Bill: I bought it last May; was consigned at European Collectables. From documents that came with the car, it had a couple of owners from 61 on but was then flipped about 3 times in the last 5-6 years.
The info that I've come across says less than 4% in that color of all ie; coupes, cabs and roadsters.
A friend of mine ran into a guy in Carmel last summer with one.....royal roadster.
Any info you can provide would be appreciated. ric

Black with red. My favourite colour combo but a lot of work.

Alex, condor yellow is a fantastic color! Much nicer than champagne yellow or anything else, I say.

I just shipped off a Condor Yellow door top to a So Cal 356 Registry member who was having no luck in finding an original paint sample for his painter to color match.Edwin Ek wrote:Alex, condor yellow is a fantastic color! Much nicer than champagne yellow or anything else, I say.
I hope he posts pictures here when he gets the finished car back...

Re: Pictures of 356's in original paint colors
With all this talk about original colors, etc, I was able to dig up another old document. I wish I have the entire document, but this was all that was passed to me years ago from a long time Porsche restorer; Jim Rinker. It wasn't until Bob Kann and Jim Ansite reminded me that I had it in my collection of dusty documents I remembered to dig it out.
Put out by Porsche of America Corporation of Teaneck, NJ. dated January of 1964.
I know you can not replicate the colors because the formulas are based on oil enamels and lacquers. But it is a starting point for those looking for paint formulas.

Most (80-90%) of the paint is original we think. Custom color from factory cost the original owner $75 extra: Dunkel Blau. A German speaking family member says that means Dark Blue. The interior is red.

As another original paint color example: The 100% all original #6410 Dolphin Grey paint, and top, of my unrestored 65C cab.
