Plaid seat material.

#1 Post by Bob Fitzpatrick »

I'm looking for leads as to where I can get this plaid material. This picture was taken at the Irvine (CA) Car and Coffee show the Saturday before the 2008 Dana Point Concours. Any help would be appreciated.

Bob, talk to your local upholstery shop about the plaid, they have hundreds of samples of everything imaginable.

Plaid seat material.

Here in Louisville we had a fabric store that had everything
imaginable for the fabric trade. 4 stories of materials, sewing
machines, drapery fabrics. You name it and they had it. I could take a
sample of 356 vinyl and they could generally match it. It was in
business for generations and is now closed. I sure do miss Baer Fabrics.
Their commercial dept with automotive upholstery was always helpful.
My point is to support out suppliers. They provide services and
materials to keep out 356's going.

ps, They would have had the plaid! Several years ago,on a hunch,
I matched the plaid for the 356 luggage but the material was not 'heavy
enough' to try to make some bags.

Here is one source: http://tartanstore.net/
If you can't find it there it probably does not exist.

Does Bill Hirsch not have this? Specialist in older German upholstery, he used to be the place to go.... http://www.hirschauto.com/

Aye, I would suggest a wee bit of this tartan:

My great grandfather from the Isle of Skye would be proud...and don't forget the matching kilt!
