Born 18 May 1945, Here is a picture of my Speedster taken in July 1965 four months after I purchased it. I'm the guy on the left. We took it on a road trip from Amboy Washington to Eastern Oregon that is Elk Lake near Bend Oregon. It was are last fling before I left for the Army and my buddy left for the Navy.

George, what a classic photo! I love it. Looks like a headrest on the passenger side. Did that Speedster have coupe seats?
Is that the Speedster you are restoring now?
Best regards,

Barry yes those are coupe seats they were in the car when I purchased it in 1965, and yes it is the same care that I'm getting road worthy. I'm not really restoring it as much as I'm getting it road worthy. Once I get that done then each winter I will spend time fixing other little things that are in need of attention. I may re do the interior to stock configuration and also at some point put the original color on it. It all depends on how much and how far I can stretch my social security checks. Road worthy is my main focus point right now. Glad you enjoyed the picture. Have a good week.

Afraid I don't know how to vote on this "poll" but I was born pre-production, 1947.
We acquired the car in the avatar, my first "toy" car ever, in 2001 from the family of the initial owner. I wanted it in high school. It was "born" 9 days after my HS graduation. If only I had had it while Jeanne was still alive. I know she would have gone out with me, or at least answered my phone calls. Alas, not only did I never get to first base with her but was never on deck. When I learned of her tragic passing in an HS alumni newsletter, I decided I'd better get the car of my dreams before I joined her. Rosemary is pleased too - she is the beauty in the photos.

Born 1943. Purchased my first Porsche, a '57 cabriolet in1970 while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Have owned a variety over the years, a '59 Conv. D, '58 A coupe, '62 B coupe, '64 C sunroof coupe, and the last, a '59 A coupe which I sold in 2002. Currently do not own a 356, but the flame never dies. The first Porsche I ever saw was a new '57 Speedster which a local business man always kept parked in front of his office. Our school bus passed by on a daily basis and just seeing that little galcier white Speedster was always the highlight of my day. When all the other kids were dreaming of hot-rod Fords and Chevys, I was dreaming of Porsches. Back in those days most people didn't even know what a Porsche was, much less how to pronounce the name correctly.

I was born in July 1965, 17 days after my '65 SC was delivered to its first owner in New Orleans.

The other day I was walking back to my car in a parking lot when I was approached by a fellow 356 owner who talked to me about my car and his '61 coupe he recently restored with his dad (or had restored, I forget which). The best part....he was 21 years old! That's right, 1990.

Not sure, my girlfriend was sitting in the car waiting to leave and started clearing her throat so I had to cut the 356 conversation short.Mark Pribanic wrote:Herrick Griffin wrote:....he was 21 years old! That's right, 1990.

Alex - Maybe Ferdinand's creative genius was pregnant with the Gmünd at the same time that your mom was carrying you?
