356 towing a 550

#1 Post by George Valerio »

Hello You can tow a trailer with a car on it with a 1964 C Cab. I bought a 1964 C Cab from G&W ( Weldon ) for $1800.00 that was rolled. So we taped in a coupe glass as you can see.
At the same time a 550 came up so I bought a 250.00 trailer loaded the 550 and drove to Ca. 6 days at 56 miles per hour. If I went over 56 mph the trailer would fish tail and I would poke a new hole in the seat bottom. George

George, please tell us what year you had this adventure. <G> I assume sometime in the 70's?

Best regards,

Barry

George,
You can't just stop there! What's the rest of the story? What happened to the cars?

Sold the cab to a guy that owned a Beck Arnley Parts store. The 550 went to a Bid wheel at Gallo Wine in Modesto Ca. I kept buying, selling and driving Porsche's for more than 45 years. Still have a pile for myself.

Mr. Valerio:

Of course, a fellow as experienced as yourself has figured out long ago that if you would have turned that 550 around on the trailer, the trip could have been faster without incident (assuming, of course, that the hitch could take the added tongue weight..... but prudently loading some luggage, etc. in the nose of the 550 could have balanced that out.....).

But certainly and in any case, I know that was a fine trip.

Keep 'em flying...

I moved the 550 all over the trailer and it is only so long and not much room. It was not tongue weight it was 1000 lbs with a 1000 lb trailer and a 2000 lbs car towing it. I also had a new hippy girl friend that made the trip SUPER. The old days and still do it now. No hippy but a very Hot wife.
