Special Event for Automotive Enthusiasts

#1 Post by Michael Jekot »

Not specifically a 356 event or content for that matter but... if you are into cars at all this should satisfy.

Velocity: The Art of Motion
June 28-August 3, 2008
Hopkins Minnesota (suburb of Minneapolis)
http://www.hopkinsmn.com/_hca/velocity.html

This will be the largest, stand-alone automotive fine art exhibition in the United States and the first time such an event has occurred in the Upper Midwest. Given the history of the site of Hopkins Center for the Arts (former dealer lot of Suburban Chevrolet), nothing could be more appropriate than celebrating the automobile and the art it has inspired.

The invitational exhibition, curated by Michael Jekot, will include paintings, sculpture, photography, illustration and collage by an international roster of artists.

Just a little bump...

#3 Post by Rich.Herzog »

...as we enter the last weeks before the event.

Joy and I are headed NW _very_ early next Monday to be in the Minneapolis area early-midday Tuesday, then we'll hang around the area doing tourist and rare summer vacation things until the Opening Day events.

Michael Jekot I know will be there, and I haven't heard from any of the other participants.

I will have Porsche art to show but, alas, no 356-oriented stuff this time.

Still - I hope you're able to check out the event if not on Opening Day (Sunday June 29) then at some point during its run. If you -are- at the Opening Day reception, or the supporting Nord Stern Region car show that afternoon, I'd be glad to talk with you.

Hey, that's my hometown. And I'll be visiting during the run so I'll be able to check it out!

Not only is the site of the exhibit a former car lot, but the road it's on (main street) was one of THE places to cruise back in the day. Our house was a few blocks off the main drag, and I still remember the sound of big V8s winding out on summer nights. No A/C, I'd be in bed with the windows open... Before I had my license (early-mid 70's) my buddy's and I might spend a Friday night at the Dairy Queen, eating ice cream and watching the cars go by.

Somewhat ironic that the town actually reconfigured the street to discourage cruising at one point, and is now hosting an event on automotive art...

Just got back to the hotel from the "artists and sponsors" pre-opening reception. This is one cool show! The laptop can't read the camera's memory card or I could post some pictures shamelessly promoting my work - that will have to wait until I'm home in SEPA Tuesday.

But it's a great venue and a fine representation of automotive art. Check it out if you can.

so here is a picture of the overlarge old artist with a couple of paintings at the _Velocity_ show. The top one is a Porsche; the bottom one isn't. Neither is a 356...
