Recommended to me and now recommended by me: "John Adams", David McCullough.
McCullough's a 'homer' and often beyond that, but if you can read the first pages without getting off your horse, shivering, next to Adams, in the winter of 1776, it would take a better writer to drag you into the story, and they're hard to find.
One of his best; wonderful.

+1, Absolutely my favorite book. Could not recommend it enough. David McCullough single handedly rehabilitated John Adams (and put a fairly negative spin on Hamilton, of course consistent with Adams' feelings). A page turner that makes one feel very small compared the few who lived epic lives.Ron LaDow wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 12:53 am Recommended to me and now recommended by me: "John Adams", David McCullough.
