Spare saver wheels

Spare saver wheels, alloy. Any recommendation for having them polished in Central Florida or the Seattle area. Also pros and cons on polishing v powder coating.

These wheels were designed to be run at 50 MPH. EVERYONE will drive faster than that! Use them as they were designed for a SPARE TIRE, AND DRIVE SLOWLY. al zim

The tires were 50 mph rated, not the wheels.

Martin: Page 75 Owners manual 944 1984 printing Page 76 924S owners manual page 76 Printed 1986. "The collapsible spare tire cannot be repaired or mounted on the rims with standard workshop equipment." you managed to get the tire off the rim. Last sentence "Repair and remounting must only be done by the tire manufacturer." We have changed thousands of tires in the last 55 years but we have never mounted a collapsible spare. I would presume that you would like to address this point? These wheels were spun aluminum and inherently weaker that the gas burner wheels used on the 914/6 and the early 1970's 911's. Why did Porsche change to a steel wheel for the collapsible spare? al zim WE DO NOT PURCHASE OR SELL THESE WHEELS.

As long as he doesn’t run on space saver tires he should be fine. I am sure the wheel material change was to cut cost.

My understanding is that the wheels in question are a one piece rim and made of alloy and are forged not cast. I have seen the 16 inch version, 10 holes, utilized on Emory cars and have observed  the 15 inch wheel, 16 holes,  on vintage racers, SOVREN vintage racing in the PNW. Now, if proven the are save to use back to the question, "  Any recommendation for having them polished in Central Florida or the Seattle area. Also pros and cons on polishing v powder coating.
If determined unsafe anybody interested in a nice set of four?

Don't worry about it, they are not unsafe. Many thousands of miles on mine - lots of those over 50MPH. Even if the wheel had a design limit of 50MPH, which I don't believe, a 944 weighs about 800 lbs more than a 356 and has far higher cornering capabilities. The hard part is getting the space saver tire off. Once off, you can mount normal tires on them as usual. Sorry, no recommendation on polishing vs. powder. When I finish my resto, mine will be painted in urethane.
