Magnetized rods?

#1 Post by Ron LaDow »

Being a sucker for engine machining and building, I wonder onto all sorts of articles and vids. This one, at about 15:40 claims rods should be demagnetized, since they will pick up iron filings and later drop them in the oil.
I'm going out on a limb and calling BS, but if any of you guys have data showing otherwise, I have my recipe for fricasseed crow handy.

I have heard that F1 engines are built in nitrogen filled chambers to avoid dust particles. I don't know if that is true.

I think that anything you are working on, one should be mindful of magnetism, and not have it where it does not belong. I have never heard of this in regards to connecting rods.. though. Mine being titanium I guess it matters little.

As if I did not have enough to worry about when I build an engine. Gee, thanks for the heads up Ron. Stop surfing the internet for problems I have enough already

If the rods are magnetized then electric coils could be placed nearby and energized when extra power is needed. Hybrid power, Kerrs, a new product offering for PM?
