The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

#1 Post by Jim Alton »

Anybody out there who'd give his right arm, and leg, and maybe a kidney, to get into The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during classic car week is in luck.

McCall Events is offering a handful of "SUPERTICKETS" for just $1,225/each. A "SUPERTICKET" gets you into both The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering Friday, 16 August 2019 and McCall's Motorworks Revival Wednesday, 14 August 2019.

Here's my Speedster at the Quail last year (2018). The previous owner got it in. No way I could get it in much less afford to enter it. In fact, even though I owned the car at the time of the event, I didn't go.
(They sent me the photos though!)

Sometimes I attempt a little irony.

When The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering started a decade or so back I think it was $ 200 (more than Pebble Beach in those days). People said it was the best value in classic car week given the great food.

I'm not so sure it's still a great value at today's prices, especially now that Werks Reunion is there for Porsche folks. But, I can't help noticing the "champagne wishes and caviar dreams" events.

You ought to consider Monterey Classic Car "Week" (it's more than a week)--with or without the Quail.

Classic Car "Week" is expensive (mostly because hoteliers noticed the all-Ferrari traffic jams and raised their prices accordingly) but it's well worth the visit. You'd easily spend as much or more on a cruise and cruises don't have a third of the world's great classic cars assembled in hope you'll come and admire them.

The events:

Mon, 5-Aug-2019 Tue, 6-Aug-2019 Wed, 7-Aug-2019 Thu, 8-Aug-2019 Fri, 9-Aug-2019 Sat, 10-Aug-2019 Sun, 11-Aug-2019 Mon, 12-Aug-2019 Tue, 13-Aug-2019 Wed, 14-Aug-2019 Thu, 15-Aug-2019 Fri, 16-Aug-2019 Sat, 17-Aug-2019 Sun, 18-Aug-2019 Mon, 19-Aug-2019 The hotel prices go up really high just on the final weekend so it doesn't cost a whole lot more to stay for the entire week.

Not only do cruises not have cars, I've never heard of anyone getting Legionnaire's Disease at a car show.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

The Quail is my favorite car event. It always has a wide mix of cars that are very accessible. Here are 2 cars that were on display very close to each other last year; a McLaren Senna and this cool old 356. Interestingly, the 356 got as much attention as the top of the McLaren line.

Also, great food and drink and it’s always an informal fashion show.

If you like this when consider the Goodwood Revival. A fraction of the cost, you can also rub shoulders with famous drivers in the paddock and they race the cars.
