Can anyone id these Solex manifolds?

#1 Post by Richard Colella »

I got these with a pair of Solex P40-II carbs a few years back. Can anyone id the engine application? I assume some kind of VW, but I can't seem to figure it out despite using my best Internet ju-jitsu.

Likely a VW version; Not for 356 or 912.

Dual port VW type 1 to Weber manifolds, or do the 40 P11s fit ?

Except for those ports; maybe Okrasa?

Martin, yep, the Solex P40-IIs fit.

Vic, yes, the D-shaped intake ports seem to be a bit unusual.

I found this thread about a collection of Sauer und Sohn parts someone got, including heads with D-shaped ports that look about the same. Apparently S&S used to make performance parts and kits for VW engines. Note that the intake manifolds shown in the thread are taller, though, so not quite the same.

This may end up being a wild goose chase. I'm just trying to find a home for these, rather than just pitch them in the recycling bin.

Oh, and I did find images of what looks like an exact match on a .de website. Not much help, but the only images I could find.

A good friend of mine is very knowledgeable about all things VW - I'll try to send him an email to see if he can fill in the story. Don't pitch them in the trash bin - they are way too cool for that.
Toby runs a full vintage original Okrasa engine in his 1957 bug - its pretty damn fast - for a VW beetle.

Technically, the flat side of the "D" is in the wrong location to smooth out the air flow into the chamber.

Jack, thanks, let me know if you hear back.

Vic, I don't know much about head massaging (except, occasionally, my own :-), but as an aside I also saw these VW performance heads from Mofoco. Same D-shaped intake ports, but different orientation.

Now we're talking! See my photo of what I developed for my 1300cc G-Production race car.
