LeMay opened up many of the SAC bases for sportscar races. 1953 & 54 at OFFUTT, where 40,000 people showed up. I think the main reason a lot of old foreign sports cars were around the Omaha/Lincoln area in the 50s/60s was due to the Air Force Base.

I was in SAC from 1956 through 1965. It was a win-win situation for LeMay's guys. We could work the races and some of the money generated helped to improve our lives on base.

Wish we had a few LeMays around today........

Bill,

Is that an original? There is a reprint that has been sold on eBay over the last couple of years and I was wondering if anyone out there had an original.

I lived in Omaha from '68 until '74.

Makes sense. I remember my college days in Lincoln in the mid-80's there were some great used car lots (I think around "P" Street) that were lousy with 60's era sports cars. I used to drive some crazy old car for a few months and then go in and trade up/down on whatever caught my eye. It was like a playground back then, little did I know I should have kept a few of them :D

Yes, it`s original and crusty on heavy card stock paper. It was stuck to another before I got it. Google this race to see entrants names, car makes, and results. I got this from "4camspeedster" on ebay who has a large inventory of these old SAC race posters from many tracks around the country.

My Father had this exact Omaha poster in his "den" back in the 60's and 70's. (They are called man caves now)
I have since inherited it and his 356, and your photo is exactly like it.
