New California classic car survey
It looks like California Is trying to survey all the classic cars Older than 1978 the 3 or 4 page Survey With the questions about where you drive Were you stored How much gas you put in it how many miles you drive Looks Like they may get ready to limit your driving ability. That does not sound very comforting.

Re: New California classic car survey
There are a huge number of people there with old cars, but they might not be organized in a way to have any clout in fighting this. Hopefully it will not happen anyway.

Re: New California classic car survey
The nature of the questions suggest that they are more concerned about the amount of gas in/emissions out than just miles driven. While somewhat disconcerting for 356 owners who get 25-35mpg, it should really concern owners of cars that are in the 8-12mpg category. Not sure how they would regulate that in the real world - maybe less allowable miles per year for the guzzlers? I've had Classic plates for years on many cars and never approached the allowable miles. And in a 356 it's very easy to accurately know your speed via the tach so a quick disconnect of speedo would keep that number down. GPS will also give very accurate speed measurements. So this will be pretty low on the list of current events that give me pause.

Re: New California classic car survey
yes that is exactly what they are trying to do, restrict non emission controlled cars from being on the road. Probably eventually have to buy carbon credits to drive the cars in California

How are people being contacted about the survey? I'm in California and have not been notified of one.

Re: New California classic car survey
No surprise coming from CA government. They are just trying to make your life better. I was in Boston today picking up my "new" 63 Cab and passed a Tesla burning to the ground. Incredible amounts of smoke and confused fire and police responders just watching it burn. EVs are much cleaner than classic cars. Don't forget to vote.

Re: New California classic car survey
I did a Google search on the topic and several car groups have commented. If I read the info correctly, owners are identified through the California vehicle registrations. Surveys will be randomly sent out. Questions are related to number of miles driven, how many days the vehicle is driven, annual mileage, where the car is stored (garage, car ports, outside, etc.), how the car is stored for extended periods (fuel stabilization, etc.) and what county you reside in.
The purpose of the survey appears to gather info on vehicles older than 1978 and how many might be in the different counties with the focus on establishing emissions free zones. Now how big these zones might be is unknown. I know the UK is looking at the same issue and perhaps our friends across the pond can elaborate.
If I get a survey, I'll keep you posted.
Mike

Re: New California classic car survey
I don't know if that would help vehicles currently registered in California but perhaps future purchases. I suspect at some time, that Montana option might be cut off.
