Cozzy used the Gerotor design on the DFV, but I believe it (the operating parts) was lifted from one of the stock Ford engines.
The argument regarding lowering the operating frequency makes sense, but the design is not new and I don't believe anyone has ever claimed to find any power gain from either pump design.
Theoretically, cavitation could cause harm to the gear teeth; it does to marine screws, but I've never seen it. I also don't see any data in the article.

The 1968 Yamaha XS650 that I road raced for 10 years had a very small gerotor pump that did a superb job. Other than that I will let the engineers fight out the pros and cons. Cosworth did tend to do things for actual reasons and most of the time it worked out well for them.
