Unrestored Ducati raced at the Isle of Man in the late '50s by this rider's father in the same leathers!

CJ., Ducati makes the most beautiful bikes ever. I had a "Mike Halewood" (Mike the Bike) in my office for years, just so I could look at it. Rode it once, and it scared the hell out of me. Not to mention it was like sitting on the small edge of a 2 X 4.

Thanks for posting all the interesting photos Cliff, and who'd have thought I'd be looking at a beautiful Marcos so far from home. Possibly in original colour as well. A fabulous, cleverly designed car, from a couple of genius'. These early cars had a lightweight wooden plywood chassis.
In about 1967 I worked in London, and a senior Art director at the Agency drove his new Marcos to work most every day. Same colour as this one. Parked it out the front. I would look at it and think 'how could you drive such a car like this, when you could have a Porsche 911 '. Today, I'm not so sure.
Some years back in Historics here in Sydney, we had one racing. I think it finished out front every race.
Thanks Cliff, jim

Jim, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have a special attraction to 356s but I love many classic cars. I have never owned a Marcos but I was attracted to them when they were new and read about them in the magazines. I have owned a Daimler sp250, 2 Elva Couriers, and a Caterham so I do like low production Brit cars. Then there is the Devin....I think I have a problem!

What excited me most about last Saturday was the diversity of the machines participating. The Abarth Zagato was great and a bit shocking after seeing its twin at the ECH 500 miles away earlier in the month! What are the odds? The series 1 Lotus 7 with Coventry Climax power was cool. Loved the Fiat 850 too, maybe it was an Abarth, I didn't look. I want to own every car and bike there. Yes, I have a problem.

If you have a problem CJ. I'm ready for an institution. If those two bikes are in your office, I'll never speak to you again. This is what I've reverted to in my old age.

Did James Dean die on that? It is cool but maybe you have too much time on your hands? What are the specs on that bad ass 2-stroke? What will she do when you get "under the paint"? I hear Valentino Rossi has one just like it. It is kind if cool in a very funky Hipster kind of way.

Louie Vermeil, coach Vermeil's father, had an illustrious career as a car owner and builder during pre and post war open wheel racing on the west coast. The black number 7 was a "big car" as sprint cars were then known and was built around '26 by Al Bignotti, brother of legendary Indy crew chief George Bignotti. I think the engine is a model A or B with a Miller-Scofield overhead conversion, a very potent set up. Louie bought the car which won an ARA championship in 1950. Those old race cars often had long careers. I think this car was presented at the Amelia Concours.

Thanks Jim. Here is a picture taken from my desk chair at work. 1977 Honda MT125 factory built road racer last raced by a former Playboy Playmate who is a friend of mine. Not that kind of friend!

It's a curse, beautiful people tend to gravitate towards me. Maybe they look even better when they stand next to me?
