RS60 Parts Book

#1 Post by Sebastian Gaeta »

Guys,

I am looking for some knowledgeable people to help value/evaluate an RS60 parts book.

I do not own it and it is not for sale right now, I am simply helping out a non-computer using member who owned such a car and campaigned it back in the day.

Pictures below, obviously well used but still very, very cool. There are a few more pictures available so if you can help with this I can send those along as well.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Sebastian
I believe scans exists so the practical value is minimum and besides that i doubt if there are many parts in stock at your local dealer. As a collector item i doubt if all the current RS 60 owners have one so you can probably get a few grand for it to one of them.

You are definately in the several thousand dollar range. Remember the lit guys collect all the lit, not just the cars they own. I sold just the cover from a Spyder manual several years ago and got over $1000 for just the cover.

I do not believe you have much value there. I cannot explain why but there
was a very large amount of the RS60 parts books published,...never made any
sense to me. Some of us more seasoned veteran collectors surmised at the time
(early 70's) that a copy must have been issued to EVERY dealer in the World. I have bought
out old stock from many dealers over the last half century and nearly every one had a nice
copy!

I have had at least a dozen and most were in near mint unused condition but
I did learn the hard way once that you had better be careful if you try to clean
the cover,...the print will wipe right off of there with even the mildest cleaner.

The condition of that copy is horrible, anything over $50.00 would be "Well Sold"

But, to Adam's point and Barnum's astute observation, there was indeed one born every minute !

Hi Sebastian
i will give you $100.00 double what Tim thinks. I actually use books like that so the condition is unimportant.
j
BTW Tim if i get it i will only charge you $500 for the cover exchange for one with no print(it's Adam's idea) by now all the extra copies should have been bought up.

Thanks Jacques, I am good with my mint issue.
BTW, I have the RSK and RS60 Drivers Manuals as Adam posted were
actually type written on a Porsche template then printed in-house and
"bound" as the pic illustrates .

Actually Chuck Stoddard once handed me an armload of those
From a stash he brought back from a factory trip in the 1970's.

That is what was always baffling about the large amount of RS60
parts books as Sebastian posted when Porsche did not justify having the
drivers manual professionally printed..

Mine came from the estate of Ziggy Marlin, of Brumo's. Imagine my surprise when I got the cover!
It was a pretty good stash of lit.

Yes, it's 8AM, and my notes are in my desk, settle down. But you still knew who I was talking about, right?

Siggy was a good friend of mine since the 1960's.
Spent many pleasant hours sitting in his kitchen or when visiting with me,...
listening to all the great stories from his first days with Porsche,
building the 4-Cams, traveling to all the most important races
Worldwide, insight to all the notables of the world of Porsche. Siggy
introduced me to Rolf Wutherich in the '70's...that was some experience!

For all I know there could very well have been a Ziggy Marlin,...there is a Charlie Tuna

Tim, Adam, all
The green jacket Adam pictures looks like a 550 PARTS book, an item I have been told does not exist. If there is such a thing, I would dearly love to acquire a copy. I want the information, no interest in it's "collectablity".
