We lost David Bowie the other week, now Glenn has passed. How sad. As We get older the more of Our peers leave Us along the way. It brings it home, 'One Life, Live It'

I was watching a Pro-Am golf tournament in Palm Springs a number of years ago that Glenn Frey played in - he was a good and avid golfer. When he walked onto the green, an older gentleman behind us asked, "Who's that?" We said it's Glenn Frey of the Eagles. The old guy thought a minute then asked, "Quarterback?"

At least Glenn Frey and David Bowie got to live reasonably full lives. Not so for John Lennon.

Timewise, no. But man, what a life he did have in those forty short years.

Well, if we're going there, how about the "27 Club" of the early '70's? Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and of course Jim Morrison, who famously sang "no one here gets out alive." All gone at 27. Keith Moon at 31, Kurt Cobain at 27, Amy Winehouse--the list goes on unfortunately. Aside from John Lennon, I guess it's a case of "you live the life, you pay the price."

I didn't mention any of them because Lennon was the only one who was an innocent victim. Those others did it to themselves.

You're right about that. Then there's the plane crash guys, like Buddy Holly and Otis Redding and I'm sure a host of others. At least John Denver was flying his own plane.

I finally got to see the Eagles for the first time last year, thankfully. They were loaded with talent from the early days onward.
A couple of guys that were musicians for Linda Ronstadt and decided to go out on their own. What a great story.

Dion gave up his seat because it cost too much ($36).

That's three guys who gave up their seat. Do we do a poll? Or can somebody definitively name the guy?

It was Waylon.

Waylon Jennings was a member of Buddy Holly's band at the time. He was scheduled to fly with Buddy and J.P "The Big Bopper" Richardson from a show in Clear Lake Iowa to their next gig in Minnesota. When Ritchie Valens wanted to go along, Waylon gave him his seat in the chartered Beechcraft.

The day the music died....... Feb. 3, 1959.
