Is the VW mess going to impact Porsche?

There's a long discussion at http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums ... ght=diesel.

One possible impact: those diesels went a long way to improving the VW corporate mpg average. Fewer diesels would mean other cars might have to achieve more, and that could affect some Porsches.

We are expecting a notice from our Porsche dealer, for a retrofit since my wife drives the Cayenne diesel. I believe it has an Audi engine in it

Unless what I've heard was untrue, you'll have a long wait. Supposedly, only VW's 4 cylinder TDIs had the dishonest software and Porsche also claims that they did the software for the Cayenne's V-6 Diesel and it complies with regulations.

I spoke to a few Porsche executives at Rennsport V. Porsche has already verified that no Porsche diesel engines are affected by the VW/Audi mess.

1) Porsche is a brand within the VW corporation.
2) VW screwed with governments by purposely avoiding their regulations.
3) Governments and the consumers who were harmed (and who will be backed by governments) will take many pounds of flesh in revenge.
4) Porsche, as part of that corporation, will suffer financially.
How much? How much does it take to put VW out of business? I'd guess $10 less than that.
But my guess isn't backed by a short sale, so it's internet BS at this point.

I know the stock is up 13% from when I bought it a couple of days ago, my bet is that is going to be like Martha Stewart going to prison, in the end just lots of publicity, and there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Did I mention the stock is going back up?

Perhaps the best part of this is that VW has to divest Porsche, making it independent again. VW builds cr@p (I know from experience), Porsche does not. It will be interesting to see how this whole thing pans out.

The 2009 deal that made Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG part of Volkswagen AG also included Porsche Automobil Holding SE owning 50.7% of Volkswagen AG. Given this circular relationship, who divests whom?

If Porsche were separated from VW, Porsche would have big problems meeting corporate mpg or CO₂ standards.

My apologies. I meant to say "IF" VW has to divest Porsche... And no, my experience is that not all car makers make crap. My 356's are at the top of the non-crap list, followed by 30+ Toyotas my family and I have owned over the years. Sorry again for the misconception--I have no idea where this whole thing will end up but for VW to try and throw some engineers under the bus for this situation they're in is even more reprehensible.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I'm sure the fines on both sides of the Atlantic will be massive, not to mention the damage done to the value of the brand. It is however, interesting and instructive to follow the money. Prior to the "dieselgate" scandal breaking, Porsche Automobil Holding, the Porsche and Piech family holding company owned a majority of Volkswagen stock (50.73%). 10 days ago they purchased an additional 4.4 million shares (1.5%) at an undisclosed price from Suzuki. Although VW's stock price fluctuates a lot, the scandal has cost Porsche Holding approximately $10 billion dollars. They seem to be unaffected and appear to be looking at it as an opportunity to gain further control of Volkswagen which they were trying to buy prior to the financial crisis.
