Who'da thunk it?

#1 Post by Jim Nelson »

Here's a car for sale that has a VIN very close to mine
http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dea ... 65431.html

He's 158430, I'm 158420
He was built 5/29/63, Mine was 5/16/63
His trans number is 64683, mine is 64234

BUT
his engine is 800746 with a T5 filler, mine is 807237 with the T6 style filler.

Not exactly what we'd figure, I think..

Yes, Vic, it is, and the later car has a U.S. setup.

The Euro heater needed the larger, flat breather to clear the fan shroud "snorkel". I think you'll find a standard B generator stand. Your breather looks like a C, but has the B bottom hole.

True. I was thinking more along the lines of the difference in the engine serial numbers-- his 800746, though on his COA as the original engine, is listed on Eric's site as a 1960 S90, with the highest chassis number fitted as 154560. So was it a leftover ? Dunno. Mystery of life, I guess.

800746 is a 1960 engine number, so could not have been the original or only engine listed for that car.
However, 0800746 is a 1963 engine number, so it's possible the first "0" was mistakenly left off the COA.

I don't see it claimed that the car is matching numbers, or did I miss that?
If the car currently has engine number 800746, not 0800746, then I would suspect the COA they show, which is a scan or photocopy, has been altered to match.
