Many Decades Ago

#1 Post by Bob Forman »

Found this in a box of old photos. It was taken in August 1969 when leaving home for Fort Lewis, Washington for my final Army assignment. At this point in my life I could put everything I owned in and on my 356. The car was paid for and I had money in the bank. Since then everything's been down hill. I guess that's a bit of a pun as the skis are Head Downhills.

Bob,

That is a great find. Post more if you've got them. My favorite images are of owners who had these cars back in the day and they were their only mode of transportation.

Sebastian, I have just this one other. You can see the remaining tan I acquired in Vietnam. Wish I was that weight now.

Also, classic looks never go out of style, I am wearing the same thing today as you were wearing in that first picture--Lacoste shirt/khaki shorts!

I think that was my only Lacoste shirt. They were expensive back then.

And on the skis were Marker toes and heel turntables with long thongs. But the poles maybe were a little older.

You're right Brad. These were non-releasing rear bindings....a serious recipe for a broken leg, but you'd never see a runaway ski go down the hill unless your leg was in it. The poles are/were A&T measured to your armpit.

I also have been going through boxes of old family photographs, and ran across this one from the late spring 1970, with my new RT1 Yamaha and the same '59 Coupe that I drive today.

Not a 356, but it was my first Porsche, my parents dropped me from their insurance! It was fun calling insurance companies saying I was 20 and needed insurance on a Porsche.
