Like Gary, my manual is coded W 31 e July 1963 Edition and what is also interesting is that it says "Printed in Germany." Premature perhaps or just optimistic?

Our car was delivered on June 26, 1964 in Zuffenhausen to the original owner. We purchased the car from his family.

The owner's manual displays the following at the bottom right of the title page:

W 31 e June 1964 edition

Subject to change without notice

Printed in Germany 6.64 GI.

I don't know when my 64C was purchased but the COA shows a 05/22/1964 Completion Date.
The owners manual that came with the vehicle displays:

W 31 e September 1963 Edition
Subject to change without notice
Printed in Germany 2: 64 Gl.

In my manual on page 34, under the heading Tachometer, it says "The instrument is mechanically connected....", this is not the case with this vehicle as it was one of the first with the electric tachometer. It also does not have the mentioned "green area on the dial".

If I were to hazard a guess, the cars got whatever the current manual was available even if it was lacking in updated info like brakes, etc. What would have been great is if Porshe AG or the dealers gave the owners the updated versions when they were available.

I think it was just real hot in July 1963 and Heinz had a few too many hefeweizens before they did the Page 72 graphics.
