The 356 stablemate

#1 Post by Jim Nelson »

Got its rear window today. A total bear to put in. A wraparound deal that even according to the shop manual wants to pop out. Much blue air in the garage.

It's always harder to install the rear window when the car is hanging on a wall. Try it with the car level......

cheers,
Wes

edit: My post doesn't make sense now, but it did when his photo was standing on end........

Why is it that the thumbnail goes 90 degrees off from the picture when you post it?

And….no wonder it was so hard…..

Jim,

Is that a Hawk? When double clicked, it is seen as you took the picture. Really like the color and the car! Please post more pictures of this project!

Thank you.

Not a Hawk, Dan, but it's a close relative. This is a '53 Commander and preceded the Hawk by a few years. Most famous for Bonneville runs and La Carrera PanAmericana wins (recently). The only thing left from 1953 is the body and the trim.

One of my favorite "Hot Rods" in the mid 60s in Fargo N.D. where I grew up was similar but yellow with green tinted windows. And it seems you are not alone in your latest endeavor: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2015 ... starliner/

Raymond Loewy (sp?) design. He also did the Coke machine and the stainless Greyhound bus.

Chasing Classic Cars just had a show with a '54 Commander, red/white, 7000mi. surviver. Amazing, like new, never touched!
