This is my first post
I have always been a VW guy...drove them in high school in the 80's and to work now. I have driven aircooled only for the last 4years.
Anyway, a 356 has always been on my list for "must have" cars so I recently traded my daily driven "ratty" 51 split beetle for a 356 T5. The 356 is a running, driving car but the previous owner striped the paint off for a respray and got in over his head and lost interest. At least in bare metal I could see what I got. It will go back to its cream white and red.
So now Im here.

I am lucky.
I am probably part of the second generation... born 1981. I own a 1965 C coupe.
I have been around porsches almost all my life as my dad bought his 1957 A coupe in 1988 when we lived in northern california. Apparently my sister and I rode home in the back seats!
Always thought I would own a 80's or 90's 911, but found a driver 356 and took the leap. I am happy with my decision and look forward to many years with the C coupe as well as getting the A coupe back on the road after about a 7 year restoration.

Mark,
Congratulations on the 356!. I would say you are part of the 3rd generation. The Y356 generation, those born after the 356 production stopped. You got your 356 early compared to most newer owners... Pre 30. That is good. Drive it as much as possible.
Any pics of your 356?
Any pics of your dad's 356?
What part of the country are you in?

I was born in 1953 and got the Speedster in 2004 (but only got it in my hands after the restoration was finished in 2007). I didn't grow up always wanting a Porsche...they seemed like gussied up VW's. But, when I started thinking about getting another "toy", the 356 seemed like a unique car, and something we could own through our retirement years at minimal cost over the long term. As opposed to the Ferrari 330 GTC we also considered, now that we're done with the restoration cost I think the maintenance will be pretty affordable by comparison.
The Registry is another reason. Although all car groups have nice people because of their affinity for whatever marque, the Registry is particularly well organized and provides a depth of contacts, events, and services that makes 356 ownership very attractive.
