Privacy invasion, Phishing from Linked In ??????

#1 Post by Rosemary Sampson »

Today, April 3, 2015, I received a request to join the professional network of James R. Liberty on behalf of J.R. Liberty & Assoc., Inc. The request was to an email address I have NEVER used except for correspondence with 356 Registry, Inc. and its officers and trustees. J.R. Liberty & Assoc., Inc. identifies itself as management consultants. I have NEVER requested such consultation from anyone let alone anyone having anything at all to do with the Registry. The State of California identifies the corporation as having been formed in 2003 and dissolved at a later date not stated on the web site. Its agent for service of process is James R. Liberty.

A google search gave a Costa Mesa California address for J.R. Liberty & Associates on Placentia Blvd. The phone number listed is disconnected.

I have no idea whether the request is legitimate or phishing nor how Linked In if "legitimate" or the "phisher" obtained an email address used only in conjunction with the Registry and NEVER elsewhere. Another member says he has received the same message and assumed it was phishing. Due to the name similarity with a member my only suggestion is to be careful if you choose to respond. I've attached a couple of not very good screen shots of what I received and what I googled.

What happened? I don't know. Just be careful out there. IF - and I don't know - someone here did share my "Registry only" email address, please don't.

I used to get a lot of these requests. It didn't matter what the affiliation was but rather it seened Linked In just grabbed a members address book and sent out requests supposedly on their behalf. Knock on wood, I haven't had any for a long time.

Perhaps remotely, Charlie, if she thinks someone is using another member's (Jim Liberty) identity and the alleged link is through our Talk List. I'd hate to think our nembership roster has been somehow hacked.

I got the same thing today. I get these "LinkedIn" requests all the time, and they`re always 356 Registry people.

If anyone you know is a linkedin member and you are on their address list you will likely get E-mailed. I get requests from my son in the UK and occasionally from his contacts. I also get them from many other sources. Luckily I have a delete key which may be one of the most oft used keys on my keyboard.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I've gotten emails with links from obviously phished email address lists of Registry members. I used to send a note back, but by now presume the 'phishee' probably hears about it from others.
I just had to pay my web-guy to straighten out the Pre Mat web site; got hacked.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the 356 Registry and in the information provided by the original poster, it clearly stated a different address and phone number than that of our member of the same name.

Someone appears a bit sensitive.

I'm guilty guys. I used Linkdin in my business life, many years ago and made the mistake of clicking on the darn thing. Needless to say I've been flooded with e-mails. I believed I was contacting car friends, but obviously made one serious mistake. Of all people !!!
