Jim, I would have hoped it was clear who may have been opportunistic. Not you, sir.Jim Liberty wrote:OK Brian, that is taking things too far. You know me too well. BTW what is "Phishing" anyway, is if "Fishing" without the fish. ..................Jim.
I am on LinkedIn and have become resigned to the constant invitations gleaned from people's address books. It's a more and more unattractive world we are creating.

Jim: to answer your question:
Phishing: a scam by which an email user is duped into revealing personal or confidential information which the scammer can use illicitly,
Also: to try to obtain financial or other confidential information from internet users, typically by sending an email that looks as if it is from a legitimate user.
I've had my email address hacked by Linked-in and when I was briefly on Facebook. Common occurence these days unfortunately.
Now, resume your push ups! Ha!

Re: Privacy invasion, Phishing from Linked In ??????
No Phishing here, it was me in my working life. I apologize for frighting the more tender side of this thread. Since I first joined LinkedIn decades ago in my real work life, I've avoided reactivating it. The motivation was seeing many old friends I have not communicated with in years on the site. For any of you who were inconvenienced by all this nonsense, just eliminate me from your account. Honest, my feelings will not be hurt, and now I know the meaning of the word I was accused of employing, I'll be much more careful in the future.

LinkedIn started in 2003. You might check the security of your personal address book.

Jim: no further apologies (or push ups!) needed. It happens to a lot of us. This time it was you. No big deal. The original posting of the issue has reminded all of us to be careful of our security measures. There are a lot of opportunists out there trying to steal information and use it for their gain. Look at the hacks of Target, Anthem Blue Cross, Home Depot, etc.

Mike is exactly right. These incidents are very common.
