Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
It also appears as if the "L" was stamped when the part was formed, while the s/n stamps were made later by hand. My current guess is that it isn't an engine part because it has the body s/n on it. Could it be a stiffener or mounting bracket somewhere in the engine compartment? In the photo, that looks like a wheel on an adjacent car in the background.
That part appears relatively heavy and the rest of the car has obviously been lightened. That brings up another possibility. Could it be a phony photo inserted into the mix to catch "photo harvesters" who might use the photos to market a non-existent car? A map maker some years ago did that. Inserted a phony town in a map of PA in order to catch another company who was copying their maps. It worked too.
Cheers,
Wes

Adam has the worlds collection of hinge covers, check with him
I say it's the left cover stamped at the bottom.
My GT had al. doors but no difference with normal door hinge covers.

Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
Hinge covers already being aluminum are already in the lightened mode, haha.
Still dunno about that edge,...the picture could be deceiving me but that shiny line sure looks like another bend.
Oh well,...maybe someone will email the seller and ask directly.

Like Norm said: it's the left side hinge cover. Period.

Yea, most likely that's true.
Wish this thread would get moved to main forum,...I think a lot of folks would like to see this incredible car.

Looks similar to the aluminum hinge covers on my '53.
That is a beautiful car.

I'm not sure why people are so hung up about the colour change. Even John, who used, to own the car said he wouldn't buy it back in it's new colour.
In period I don't think they wouldn't of thought for more than 1 second about changing the colour if needed.
PS Maybe I'm biased Abarth Silver is one of my favourite colours

Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
Neil, the car had it's most glory, in period, painted Ruby red. If the car colour had been changed before it's competition history was written then there would be a compelling reason to paint it the competition colours. Changing the colour of the car, knowing that 356 collectors covet originality, is stupid, or maybe more correctly, costly. Most buyers will want it to be Ruby.

One of those, the few made in 1959, lives 30 miles outside London. It runs as a vintage racer.neilbardsley wrote:Here is something that is quite special too. GT Pushrod Speedster!

Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
I haven't heard about that one but 30 miles outside London is quite a big radius! It would certainly take in lots of our 356 specialists in Essex (PRS Prill KK etc).
However, here is another speedster that was raced also owned, then sold, by Mr Ruston!

Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
Did they do anything special to the pushrod engines on the GTs?

Re: Nice Carrera 2 GT!
I think they were standard 1600 Super engines. The car in the London area is owned and raced by Bill Stephens.
