Re: 356 Registry magazine survey results
Sorry guys, I made it big so the old guys like Al Zim could see it without having to squint.
And if you guys are bothered by people using their names in their handles, there is a long line of people you should be going after, so you might want to get typing. But I bet it's funner to pick on the new guy, rather than going after the older guys, right? But don't worry, I'm well used to that kind of treatment, it's been like that since my first day in the Registry.
And on a more philosophical not, as much as I would sometimes like to seperate myself from Unobtanium and just be Adam, I find it's impossible. When I go to a holiday and just want to enjoy the cars and everyone wants to talk deals, or I sit down at dinner and my phone rings with people wanting parts (thanks you west coast guys), the list goes on and on, so if I can't be seperate, I might as well make the most of it.

Re: 356 Registry magazine survey results
This is a total thread hijack but.........................
Ooooooh, I hate that Adam guy.
How dare he:
-pull cars out of no where (that otherwise would have languished for another generation) so that more people can enjoy them.
-find parts that would have been lost forever so you or a friend can put your car back together.
-NEVER low ball a seller so he can "steal" a car and or parts. If its worth what the guy's asking, he pays it. If it's not, he doesn't
-take phone calls at all hours because someone else just cannot sleep until they find that part they want.
-work 8 days a week and constantly travel away from his family to pick all of this stuff up. And those are 8 backbreaking days.
If you don't like what Adam does for a living then you should also dislike:
Chuck Stoddard, Bruce Schwartz, Brad Ripley, Brett Johnson, Gary Kempton (RIP), Vic Skirmants, Al Zim, Jim Breazeale. In some form or another they all: sell (sold) parts (new and used) bought and sold cars, provided much (FREE) advice, acted as an ambassador for our hobby etc, etc.
That's a lot of hating on some pretty good guys that keep our hobby rolling.
Seriously though, some of us should really think about the value Adam has provided to many people over the years before getting all hot and bothered about a signature line. There are very few degrees of separation in our hobby and if you have not dealt with Adam directly, then someone you know has and has had a great experience and appreciated the help. If he is so bad why aren't there any specific complaints about him on the forum?
I get why some people may be bothered--he's a young aggressive business person who is earning a living within YOUR hobby and you resent it. Sounds just like all of the other guys listed above when they were his age, but for whatever reason they get a pass.
I know Adam doesn't need my help but wow, just wow.

Adams tag - Shouts at us - I have nothing against Adam and wish him all the best - I just backed up 2 - other guys with the same commentand you resent it. Sounds just like all of the other guys listed above when they were his age, but for whatever reason they get a pass.
The other guys get a pass because they do not shout at me

Re: 356 Registry magazine survey results
This is a bit ridiculous. Let’s rant on people that use a nickname, don’t post their location, or don’t show their own car as their avatar. Maybe ban anyone that has ever said something nice about a replica. Or has too much bondo in their car. Or likes the wrong tires, shocks, or motor oil. We should berate anyone posting comments off topic. Anyone that likes Corvettes should not be allowed. British cars fans – ban them for life. We should surcharge anyone affiliated with a commercial operation and move their postings to a special obscure vendor forum. Act first and ask questions later. If we think a car has sold somewhere for too much money, we should slam it, the buyer, and his family. Seniority rules and you need to pay your dues, so insults should increase exponentially if you dare be younger than your car. If you don’t like something, simply complain about it. Obnoxiously of course. Anonymously if possible. And don’t ever bold a font, use CAPITAL letters, or underline. It’s 2015 – time to get serious about this hobby - and my coffee is getting cold.

Re: 356 Registry magazine survey results
What I find ironic is everyone hates a guy like me, until they need something. The last time everyone got out the knives and piled on was this.
Then when Charlie needed a carb to write his book, guess where he turned to buy it. Yeah, that was me too.
But go ahead guys, pile on, have your fun, but next time you need a part, lose my number. Yes, I will not take money from certain people, I did it today, guy wanted some FUCHS, I told him I had lots of them, but none for him.
Peter I guess doesn't like dealing with me because every time he needs a part I give him a fair price and he complains it's too high, can I take less, blah, blah, he even went as far as cornering me at Rennsport while I was trying to take pictures, telling me how I should lower my prices. Then when Charlie needed a carb to write his book, guess where he turned to buy it. Yeah, that was me too.

I don't think people are complaining about your parts business, what they
are complaining about is the "commercialism" of your posts, which most
356 Sellers try to avoid! Wouldn't be to difficult to tone it down.
And that carb you sent me was defective and I had to send it back for
a replacement. The insides were melted as I recall. Kudo's to you for
sending another one!
BTW, I have a website business selling manuals. Rarely do I mention it
in posts to the Registry List, only in the Vendors Section and in the
Classifieds Section.

Re: 356 Registry magazine survey results
Charlie, I guess you have the luxury of being a church mouse about your cottage industry re-printing manuals, since I bet you don't feed your kids with the money you make, or pay your mortgage, or build a college fund, so it isn't really a fair comparison is it?
Yeah, I'm aggressive when I buy, and aggressive when I look for stuff, but I like to think the 356 world is a better place because of what I do.
Case in point, this whole truckload had been sitting at two guys places since the late 60's/early 70s, neither guy would sell to anybody, the cars just sat outside and withered away. Well, I come along and make a deal with both guys, a deal no one before me could make, and a deal so good for everyone that I count both those guys as friends now. So is the 356 world a better place with that many cars and parts back into circulation? Would I have gotten those deals if I wasn't aggressive?

ps I couldn't think of any improvements to the mag. I quite like it. I was going to complain about the criticism of auction cars until I saw a few first hand.
