The 912 in this photo is currently for sale on ebay. Notice the rear wheel and its relationship to the well. I only bring this up in that it is the second 912 I've seen recently with this abnormality. The first I saw personally as it was for sale locally and from which I walked away. My question is, for those mechanically-inclined, what's going on here? Is this perhaps the result of an accident or a bad graft with a replacement clip or what?
BTW, I did ask the seller for an explanation but have not heard from him.

Re: 912 Inquiry
Looks like a 69 long wheel base with short wheel base spring plates. Note the gap between the torsion bar cover and the wheel opening.

Re: 912 Inquiry
I think you're right, Phil. Can you imagine any mechanic sending this out the door or any owner deciding this was okay?? Unbelieveable, but probably a good way to get in cheap!!

Re: 912 Inquiry
Someone recently posted this on the 912 forum.
"rear quarter was replaced with a 69-later panel that doesn't line up correctly with the short wheelbase suspension"
Find it hard to believe that someone would do this. Must have been able to get the quarters pretty cheap in order to justify. Interior does look like a 68.

Re: 912 Inquiry
I was confused too, then I remembered something we did at Unobtanium about 5 years ago, split the cars. I do 356's, my brother Matt does 9 series. It was too much to keep up with all of it, now we can concentrate.
I showed him this pic, it took him about 5 seconds to figure it out. Someone replaced the rear fender with a long wheelbase fender. The wheel is in the right spot, the fender is off.

Re: 912 Inquiry
It must be the entire rear clip as the passenger side is the same way. That's a lot of expensive work for a result that lessens the car's value.
